PBGH Inclusive Health Vendor Assessment

PBGH’s Inclusive Health Workgroup, launched in fall 2024 and co-chaired by Jonathan Liu, MD, FACP and Taylor Priestley MPH, MSW, Covered California, brings together employers and public purchasers to align on purchasing priorities and standards for achieving high-quality and equitable care, experiences and services across all populations. The workgroup seeks to build resources and tools to communicate and assess partners on the care they expect employees and their families to receive in all health care settings and interactions with health care providers and care professionals.

The workgroup, in partnership with external stakeholders and subject-matter experts, has developed an Inclusive Health Vendor Assessment, which can be used to assess and identify carriers and vendor partners that demonstrate their ability to provide fair outcomes, experiences, and high-quality health care services across all populations served regardless of demographics or other personal characteristics. The assessment centers on the six following categories:

  • Minimum categories
    • Demographic data collection, stratification and reporting capabilities
    • Inclusive member experience
    • Addressing health-related social needs
  • Aspirational
    • Accountability for equitable outcomes and improvement
  • Optional
    • Organization leadership and social governance strategies
    • Community impact and social investment

This assessment was built on consensus among employers and public purchasers as to how they would like to evaluate existing and potential partners for their inclusive health strategies, priorities and outcomes. This resource can be used independently or built into an existing RFP template.
