PBGH issues statement on Xavier Becerra HHS nomination
On December 7, 2020, the Pacific Business Group on Health (PBGH) issued this statement regarding the announcement that President-elect Biden will nominate California Attorney General Xavier Becerra to serve as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
From the letter:
“Elizabeth Mitchell, PBGH’s president and CEO, said, “Attorney General Becerra has demonstrated exceptional leadership in his efforts to improve the affordability and quality of health care.
He has a deep knowledge of health policy and law, and he understands how health care markets should work to benefit consumers and employers. We applaud the successful legal action he has taken against large health systems that have engaged in anti-competitive practices and used their market power to raise prices. We have worked closely with his team on legislation that would strengthen anti-trust oversight and enforcement and prohibit anti-competitive practices in the health care industry. We are confident that he will provide effective leadership in his role as Secretary, and we look forward to working with him to advance the goals of health care quality, affordability and equity.”
